King’s Athletes Conquer District Cross Country
The rescheduled District Cross-Country, postponed from before Christmas due to the poor weather conditions, took place on Friday, 12th January.
King’s took a large team of nearly 50 athletes, racing across six age groups: Year 7 (L4) Boys and Girls, Junior (U4 and LR) Boys and Girls and Inter (UR and FF) Boys and Girls.
The top eight finishers in the Year Seven races qualify for the Winter School Games; the top 16 finishers in the Junior races and the top eight finishers in the Inter races qualify for the County Championships, which will be held on 30th January.
We are delighted that a record-breaking 29 athletes from King’s School have qualified for the next round, the highest number of qualifiers the school has ever had. Moreover, almost half of all the qualifiers from the Worcester City District are King’s pupils, which is an excellent achievement for the school.
It was also amazing to see King’s athletes win five out of the six track races that were held, which is another amazing accomplishment.
The Year 7s got the racing off to a great start, and all athletes performed well; a special mention goes to Freddie P and Erin L, who won their respective races. The girls’ team put on an outstanding performance, with all eight runners finishing in the top 10.
The Junior Girls’ race was a highly competitive affair: Sophie P finished third, making her the highest finisher from King’s. Six other King’s athletes in this race also went on to qualify for the County Championships.
The Junior Boys’ race saw a fantastic win for James C, who led from start to finish with a solid and dominant run. Four other King’s athletes also qualified to join him in the County Championships.
The Inter Girls’ race had a smaller group of athletes, but they ran together with the Junior Boys, which helped Lucy T to win with a comfortable lead. All the other King’s athletes who participated in this race have also qualified for the next round.
The day’s final race saw the Inter Boys take to the course, and Ben G took the win, controlling the race throughout. He and another three athletes progress through to the next round.
We are exceptionally proud of all our athletes who gave an excellent account of themselves, racing with effort and determination.
