On Thursday 1st February, the first ever Kings's girls' cricket team represented the school in the eight-a-side Lady Taverners indoor competition at Perdiswell Leisure Centre. The squad of ten finished runners-up in the county finals of the competition, an amazing achievement after only having had four training sessions leading up to the event.
The girls unfortunately lost their match against a well-drilled Abberley team, in what was a tightly fought contest. Too many extras left the team with a mammoth one hundred and four to chase down and they eventually fell twenty runs short. The strong performance against Abberley filled the girls with confidence and they went on to beat Aston Fields in their second game, cementing the runners-up spot.
The whole squad contributed on the day and their effort and enthusiasm should be commended. Special mentions should go to Tamara Marsden who captained the side fantastically and Lucy Short who finished top run scorer for King's.
