King’s Hawford embraces European Languages Day with colourful costumes and bakes
The pupils at King’s Hawford immersed themselves into the spirit of Europe this week with a plethora of activities taking place each day, the highlight being European Languages Day on Thursday when both staff and children dressed up!
The week started off with a European Bake-Off on Monday morning. Children brought in home-baked individual cakes, cookies, or biscuits with a European twist, and the judges were awed by a wide arrange of creativity and colour. House Winners will each received a House Star Baker wooden spoon and certificate, awarded by their House Lead. The tricky job of crowning the winner was decided by staff and the star baker was presented with a trophy.
Throughout the week, children were encouraged to answer registration in a European language of their choice, after having learnt how to say hello in the 24 languages of the European Union. Every day there were House quizzes and competitions, both in Modern Foreign Language lessons and also during break and lunchtimes. On Thursday, all children came to school dressed in the colours or costume of a European country of their choice, with certificates being awarded for the best dressed in each form group. With such an amount of creativity on display, again the judges had a tricky time having to award the winners for each form. All in all, a busy week where everyone got involved and a lot of language, cake and fun was enjoyed by the children.
