King’s MUN attend BISMUN annual conference

On Friday 1st March, 11 students and 2 staff set off for the BISMUN annual conference at Kingswood School in Bath.

The conference started with an opening ceremony, after which we proceeded to lobbying in our individual committees.

Our students were representing the countries of Russia and Angola, and participated in the Security Council, Human Rights, Political, Science and Technology, Historical, and Environment Committees.  Agenda items ranged from the conflicts in Sudan, Israel/Palestine and Ukraine to global food waste, artificial intelligence, press freedom and, in the case of the Historical Committee, the India-Pakistan Dispute over Kashmir from the viewpoint of 2001.

Saturday started with snow (which led to a very good snowball fight) and the conference start time was put back to noon.  Despite that, we had a very good day of debating, finishing with a lovely relaxed evening.  Sunday saw our students finishing their agenda items and then getting their teeth into the emergency scenarios before a closing ceremony.

We were very pleased that Russia received a “Commended” for their performance during the entire conference, and individual awards were as follows: Riya M as Russian Ambassador (Best Delegate in the Security Council); Sophie R (Highly Commended and Best Young Delegate in the Human Rights Committee); Ollie H (Commended in Environment); and Louisa K (Highly Commended in Science and Technology).
