King’s Runners Compete at the Herefordshire and Worcestershire School Games

On Wednesday 8th March the U12 Cross Country runners went to Worcester University Lakeside Campus to compete in the Herefordshire and Worcestershire School Games event. Although a dry day, it was muddy underfoot with strong winds to battle against.

It was the girls’ race first with Eve and Lara representing King’s for Worcester City. After a quick start over a narrow track the girls found themselves at the back of the pack. However, Eve and Lara kept their composure and as the course opened up they worked together to steadily pick their way through the runners. Both finished strongly over taking in the last fifty meters to finish ninth and eleventh, narrowly missing out on a place in the nationals.

Oliver was up next in the U12 boys’ event and learnt the lessons from the girls’ race and was quick off the mark to ensure he was positioned at the front of the group. He kept up his speed moved through to second place with a third of the race left to go. Unfortunately, first place had made too much distance at the start of the race for Oli to catch up but he finished the race comfortably in second and progresses to the national event at the end of the month.

Well done to all three runners and good luck to Oli for the next round.
