Girls’ Netball

U11A v Hawford

This was a tough match, however, the girls were determined right from the outset and never gave up, excellent! There were some good takes by Martha jumping for every ball and Harriet was superb in GD intercepting many balls. Both girls jointly received players of the match from the other team. This was much deserved. The girls still need to work on passing in front of the player and dodging away from the opposition. Both skills we will continue to work on in the coming weeks, in preparation for the IAPS tournament. Well done girls!

U11B v Hawford

The girls had a hard match on Monday against Hawford but I was very impressed in how they battled and showed no signs of giving up. It was this determination which aided their improvement through the game. They also listened carefully to the feed back after each quarter. Piper worked hard as Centre and covered the court well, Grace did some very good interceptions of the ball and Ceri moved well to get into space.

U10A v Hawford

The girls started strongly scoring 4 goals in the first quarter. There was excellent movement by Lilly-Mae, Stephanie and Anna who then fed the ball into Amelia to score. In defence, Pari, Florence V and Heidi were good in marking their players and intercepting the ball. In the second quarter the team were aided by Gracie (C) and Henrietta (WA). Footwork was on the whole very good, but sometimes they needed reminding not to take that extra step. Overall the girls performed strongly and won their match, well done!

U9A & B v Hawford & Abberley

The A team played a triangular of matches and the B team played against Hawford. This was the first time we played the new Bee Netball Stingers game (similar to the old High 5s). It worked extremely well and the girls were chuffed to play every position. The girls were good at dodging and moving into space however, they do need to work on passing the ball with more force. In the A team, Sidney was awarded player of one of the matches as she was very determined and showed never ending effort. I was very impressed with Lucia, jumping and using correct footwork to catch the ball every time. In the B team noticeable performances were from Anoop and Florence helping their team to win 4-3. Well done girls, many positives to take away.

U8 v Hawford & Abberley

We embraced the new Bee-Netball format on Tuesday, playing ‘Buzzer’ netball in a mini-festival with Hawford and Abberley. The Year 3 girls loved it! Playing 4-a-side small sided games meant that all the girls were involved in the play and the anticipation of knocking the ball off the cone to score led to much excitement. I was pleased to see their catching and passing skills developing and they are trying to move into space.

Boys’ Football

U11A v King’s Hawford

On Monday afternoon we took the boys over to the Astro turf to compete in 3 fixtures against King’s Hawford. With the ball moving fast due to the surface, we knew our first touch and control of the ball really had to be at its best. The U11A’s played some great passing football throughout this game. It was great to watch a team trying to play the right way and to pass the ball out from the defence. Rupert J made some fantastic saves between the sticks to keep Hawford out. Max K and Harry C showed real quality in defence making some strong tackles and showing composure to find a pass to a team mate. It was a tough start to the footballing term but one we can definitely build on.

U11B v King’s Hawford

On Monday we ventured to the all weather Astro for the first football fixture of the term against Kings Hawford. The boys found it difficult to get going and we went 2 goals down early on. However, we regrouped at half time and took a more attacking approach and managed to get two goals back but constant pressure from Hawford paid off and helped them achieve the win! Particular mentions goes to Piers J and Sam P for some resilient defending and George F for scoring our two goals. A lot of positives to take from this game, well done boys!

U11C v King’s Hawford

The boys were very enthusiastic and showed great work rate throughout the game. It was lovely to see everyone on the pitch thoroughly enjoying themselves and playing with smiles on their faces. Mohamed E showed some great individual skill to beat a number of players before striking the ball past the keeper to score on 3 different occasions. Jayden H also got himself on the scoresheet and looked very threatening every time he had possession of the ball. Well done to all the boys involved in this game.

U11 Football Tournament at Winterfold School

The U11A’s took a team over to Winterfold on Wednesday afternoon to compete in the wonderful memorial Matty Thacker tournament. Games came thick and fast and the boys played 7 games back to back. It was brilliant to hear praise about the passing football we were playing from all the coaches from the teams we played. There was a bit of a switch around from Monday, as Arthur M took over in goal allowing Rupert J to play in centre defence. Arthur M made some fantastic saves, including one to keep KSA hopes alive during the penalty shoot out in the semi final of the Plate. Rupert J was a rock at the back using his size and power well to keep the opposition strikers at bay. Max K and Luke P both worked incredibly hard in every single game to make goal saving tackles and to show composure to always be looking for the next pass. Arthur D also looked strong in defence and the opposing attackers struggled to get the ball past him. Tobias and Peter J showed tremendous flair and skill in midfield to beat and go players at ease. Peter was heavily involved in St Alban’s goal of the day, where we passed the ball out from defence, then Peter received the ball and showed fantastic dribbling ability to go past defenders and deliver a perfectly timed ball to James D, who finished the move off with a lovely finish. Henry G also got himself on the scoresheet slotting the ball past the Hawford keeper. Well done to all the boys involved in this great afternoon of football.
