On Thursday, the Year 3 pupils had a ‘smashing’ time at the junk drumming workshop led by Nick Ledbury from the Glamba Theatrical Percussion Group. The Glamba Group, who have been seen on CBeebies and Star Jam, offer percussion experiences with an amalgamation of Brazilian, African and Western beats, being played on instruments varying from drum kits to bins.
As well as having a fun time, the group helps offered learning opportunities and highlighted to the children that you don’t need conventional instruments to get involved and have fun playing music. The children learned that, with just a little imagination, many everyday items can be transformed into percussion instruments. Pots, pans, water butts and hosepipes were just a few of the ‘instruments’ they played and this has really inspired them to experiment and explore their environment for new and exciting musical instruments.
