Life’s a beach for our Year 1 children who’ve been learning about the Great British seaside as part of their topic this half term.
Over the past few weeks the children have been learning all about seaside holidays, travelling back in time to discover how our holidays today compare to those in Victorian times. The children have had great fun learning about some of our beloved seaside towns, and how the activities that we enjoy on the beach today compare to the activities that our ancestors in Victorian times would have enjoyed.
The topic concluded with a fantastic beach party on the glorious shores of Costa Del Hawford. The children were able to purchase ice creams from the shop, allowing them to consolidate their Math’s work which has been focussing on money and coins. The ice creams were very reasonably priced at just 20p, so the holiday makers were tasked with either finding a 20p piece or making 20p using smaller coins.
Beach games included hoola-hoops, sandcastle building, digging holes, making sand angels, and turning each other into mermaids. After all that fun, some of the children decided to relax with their favourite book and take in the beautiful scenes here at Hawford. The day was rounded off with a wonderful Punch and Judy show.
Well done Year 1, we hope you enjoyed your time at the beach creating more wonderful memories whilst learning all about the history of the Great British seaside.
