King's Hawford

26 April

Making Leonardo da Vinci proud.

Towards the back end of the Lent Term, King’s Hawford were delighted to announce a new annual competition, The Leonardo da Vinci Competition.

Focusing on a different topic area each year, the competition will, over time, also cover a diverse range of skills such as invention, poetry or science. However, this year we have chosen the area for which Leonardo is best known, Art.

Children were invited to submit a piece of art, which could take the format of a painting, drawing, sculpture, collage or mosaic on this year’s theme “It’s Our World.” With the Easter holidays the perfect time to get their thinking caps on, pupils got creative, and quite messy by all accounts, to produce an extraordinary array of pieces. We had secretly hoped that this would be the case, judging by the number of hands that went up in the launch assembly, when everyone was asked who would like to enter the competition!

So, on Friday, 19th April, children from Reception upwards submitted a vast range of creations; clearly the competition had captured the imagination of children across the School. The competition was hugely popular, and the judges had some tough decisions to make, as the standard was exceptional.

Following much anticipation, the results of the competition were announced on Earth Day. Each and every entry received a certificate, which they truly did deserve for taking the time to consider and deliver their creation so carefully; however, the winners were:

Overall Winner (Year 5 / 6): Teddy C

Overall Winner (Year 3 / 4): Charlotte F

Overall Winner (Pre-Prep): William R

Special Awards: Louis Y and Millie B

Favourite World Award: Monty H and Elliott E

Most Informative Piece of Art: Harry J

Most Sustainable Piece of Art: Cassian W

Spread a Smile Award: Alex A and Clara N

Best 3-D Model (Prep): Persie D

Best 3-D Model (Pre Prep): Chester L

Best Drawing (Prep): Harriet B

Best Drawing (Pre-Prep): Tanith H

Congratulations to all of the winners, who received medals and trophies respectively. Having enjoyed a hugely successful competition, we are certain that it will become a firm favourite in the King’s Hawford calendar in the years to come.
