Mercia Athletics Regional Championships – A Day of Outstanding Performances
Last Thursday, sixteen pupils proudly represented King’s Hawford at the Mercia Athletics Regional Championships, held at Stourport Athletics Club.
Each of these young athletes had earned their place by meeting the qualifying standards in their chosen track and field events.
Despite the sweltering heat and challenging conditions, our pupils gave it their all. Their determination, sportsmanship, and team spirit were evident throughout the day, with many achieving personal bests and cheering each other on every step of the way.
A special congratulations goes to Marnie and Arthur, who delivered outstanding performances in the Under-12 Javelin and High Jump competitions with a throw of over 20 metres and jump of over 1m 20cm respectively. These remarkable results secure both Marnie and Arthur a place in the National Finals at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium. They becomes the tenth and eleventh King’s Hawford pupils to reach this prestigious level since 2017—an exceptional accomplishment, particularly for a school of our size. (It’s worth noting this spans seven consecutive years, excluding the two year hiatus due to COVID.)
We are incredibly proud of all the children who took part and look forward to seeing what they’ll achieve in the next steps of their athletics journey’s at the senior school.
