Following a year of COVID restrictions and Year Group ensembles, we are delighted that the sound of music ensembles have returned to King’s St Alban’s. Pupils are hugely enthusiastic, getting truly stuck into the traditional pattern of ensemble rehearsals this term.
With a broad and varied ensemble offering catering for singers and instrumentalists, each week the Prep School Orchestra, Wind Band, String group and Guitar group meet in our dedicated Music Room. Our Junior and Senior Choirs involve every child in the Prep School whilst our Chamber Choir is open to pupils in Years 5 and 6.
Currently pupils across all our ensembles are rehearsing ahead of the school concert to be held in College Hall in November. As a school, formal concerts in College Hall are held in the Autumn and Spring terms with our Summer Show taking place in King’s Worcester’s John Moore Theatre. On top of which, throughout the year, regular Informal Concerts and Celebration Assemblies provide an abundance of performance opportunities for soloists.
Having been restricted to year group ensembles last year, pupils in Years 3 and 4 are relishing the opportunity to work alongside more experienced players and gain inspiration (as well as valuable musical skills) from them. Pupils across the board are honing their skills, learning to follow rehearsal instructions and developing their musicianship. Pupils are also having a lot of fun practicing a wide range of pieces. Rehearsals are a highlight of the week for pupils and staff alike. We look forward to sharing the results of our hard work with the rest of the school and parents later this term.
It has been lovely to welcome a number of new members to each group, and that some of our new starters at King’s St Alban’s have really got stuck in to our musical offerings. If your child is interested in joining one of our ensembles or taking up individual instrumental lessons please contact Mrs Gunter, Music Coordinator via the School Office; alternatively please discover more about our Music provision here.
