Musicians Start the Year in Style

It was wonderful to welcome friends and families to the beautiful chapel at King’s St Alban’s for the first Informal Concert of this academic year.

Held twice termly, our Informal Concerts provide a platform for every instrumentalist in the school, from our youngest children in Reception to our older, more experienced pupils in the higher years to showcase the work they are doing with their instrumental teachers. Everyone is welcome, whether they have their lessons with a teacher at King’s or closer to home, and the aim is to provide a safe, supportive environment for those important first steps as a soloist.

Ably introduced and managed by Ivy and Rosie, this term’s Performing Arts Prefects, the concert got off to a fine start with ‘Don’t wanna leave you’, a spirited performance on the piano by Hannah (Y5). The audience were treated to a wide range of musical styles, from haunting folk music such as ‘An Coineachan’ (Daisy, Y4) and Ashoken Farewell (Greta, Y5) to songs from the shows. Maddie and Iris (Y4) brought the house down with their rendering of ‘Truly Scrumptious’ and Zara made us all smile with her performance of ‘Wouldn’t it be loverly’. As well as stage managing the concert, Ivy took to the stage twice and brought a tear to everyone’s eye with her captivating performance of ‘In my life’. The range of instruments played was remarkable, with this concert including performances on the alto saxophone (Max), double bass (Bertie), trumpet (George), viola (Emily), ‘cello (Henrietta) and violin (Daisy, Geoffrey, Greta and Akshay) as well as the popular piano (Hannah, Ivy, Olivia, Hibah, Max and Iris) and voice (Barney, Daniel, Maddie, Iris, Zara, and Ivy.)

We were thrilled to welcome a number of new performers to the stage. Congratulations to Barney (Y1) and George (Y6) on making a superb debut at King’s St Alban’s concerts. Geoffrey (Y2) also made his debut on the violin, having previously sung at these events.

This concert was a real treat, and a really lovely way to end the day. Well done to all our performers.
