OV is Community Champion

Many congratulations to OV and King’s Foundation Governor Jabba Riaz (Br 91-96), who has been awarded the 2022 Cllr Award for Community Champion. The Cllr Awards are the only national awards to celebrate the vital contributions of local councillors across England and Wales.

The Awards ceremony took place on 21 October 2022 at the Roman Baths and Guildhall, with hosts Bath City Council along with special guests and speakers and streamed live on YouTube.

Jabba is a Councillor of Worcester City Council and was chosen for the Community Champion Award because of the outstanding level of thought, care and compassion he has demonstrated in the role. The judges were impressed with the emphasis on unity and inclusion that he brought. Jabba was also recognised for the introduction of free swimming lessons for Asian women – a project that was literally life saving.

Commenting on the award, Jabba said, “Humbled to have won this award! I am truly blessed to have received this honour. I could not have done it without the support of my family, friends and all the residents who believe in me to keep delivering for them and the city of Worcester.”
