Having graduated from the Central School of Speech and Drama with a first class degree, OV Penny Ashmore (Cl 14-16) is currently working on her first professional acting gig in London.
Following on from that, we are delighted to hear that Penny has accepted a place on the prestigious Glyndebourne Academy, which is an operatic development project that supports gifted and talented singers. Penny will work intensively with leading opera professionals and will take part in a performance at Glyndebourne later in the year. The Academy focuses on a small number of singers who show exceptional potential, only selecting up to eight students to take part in the full programme.
Penny added, “I’m thrilled to be invited to participate in the Glyndebourne Academy. I’m so excited to work with singers who I admire so much and I know it will be an invaluable experience to improve my craft.”
We were honoured that Penny took part in our series of virtual OV lunchtime recitals last term, performing a beautiful Handel aria in a remote performance with King’s Director of Music Simon Taranczuk (Hon OV). If you would like to watch it again, you can see it here
We would like to wish Penny all the best and will watch her future operatic career with great interest.
