22 June

OV Recitals, Debates, Business Skills & reuniting 50 years later

The sun shone on Saturday 16th June as we welcomed OVs from the years of 67, 68 & 69 back to King’s for a reunion barbeque, as suggested by Jeremy Wright (S 64-68). We began the afternoon with tours of school, where a host of memories and amusing tales were shared. The school gardens and beautiful Michael Baker Boathouse proved an idea backdrop for the barbeque, and everyone had a wonderful time reuniting, sharing stories, and catching up on recent news. It was such a pleasure to see so many OVs back together again, many not having seen each other since the last day of school. The socialising continued late into the night, with many OVs having sensibly booked local accommodation for the evening, therefore ensuring that there was ample time to reacquaint themselves with Worcester City afterwards!

OVs at Business Skills Conference

Thursday 21st June saw the Lower Sixth take part in the Business Skills Conference here at King’s. The conference is first event arranged by the new Head of Careers, Helen Airdrie, who is herself a mother to two OVs.

The Business Skills Conference offers the opportunity for the L6 to take part in three activities designed to confront some of the challenges faced in industry and business, as well as encourage a better understanding of the breadth of employability skills which can be mastered.

As always, the OV community came out to support the event, acting as mentors and helping to inspire and motivate the students as they took part in activities throughout the day. It was a pleasure to be joined by OVs Nick Clark (H 88-90), Eleni Randle (W 04-06) and Hon OV Jean Vivian (Head of IT 98-16) who thoroughly enjoyed being back at school, meeting Helen, and sharing their diverse range of career and life experiences with the pupils.

OV Matthew Kelley returns to Worcester Cathedral

It was wonderful to see and listen to Matthew Kelley (S 10-17) who was back playing at Worcester Cathedral on June 21st as part of the Lunchtime Recital Series. Matthew played several pieces including some works of Alain, Bach, Buxtehude and Messiaen. Matthew was recently awarded an Organ Scholarship for St Chad’s College, Durham.

OV on question time

We were thrilled to spot OV Thomas Kelly (W 10-17) putting a question to the panel on Question Time on Thursday 21st June! Thomas was very involved in debating whilst a pupil at King’s and recently adjudicated the school inter-house debating competition (see OV News 23/03/18).
