OV ALLAN CLAYTON WINS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD

We were absolutely thrilled to hear that OV opera singer Allan Clayton (H 91-99) has won the prestigious 2018 Royal Philharmonic Society Singer Award. Tenor Allan is having a fantastic 2018 as he has also won the 2018 Whatsonstage Award for Outstanding Achievement in Opera. His recent performances have included roles in Gerald Barry’s Canada at the BBC Proms, David in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at The Royal Opera and Hamlet in Brett Dean's new Hamlet at Glyndebourne.

Closer to home,  Jabba Riaz (Br 91-96) has been made Mayor of Worcester in a special ceremony on Tuesday 15th May. OV Drew Benvie's Battenhall wins UK award for Digital Marketing Agency of 2018

The last five years have proven busy and fruitful for OV Drew Benvie (K 85-96). Having worked his way up to become CEO of a high profile global public relations firm, in 2013 he set up on his own in London, naming his new company Battenhall, after the Worcester neighbourhood he grew up in. News reached us this week that Battenhall has now won the prestigious 'PRCA Digital Agency of the Year' award for 2018, meaning that in a short space of time, Benvie's Battenhall has become recognised as the best in the business. His company now employs 50 people, and this is in fact its ninth Agency of the Year accolade – albeit, according to Drew, the best to date!

One to watch

We were very excited to see OV Will Kerton (Os 82-92) alongside his wife Gillian featuring on BBC2’s programme ‘Back To The Land with Kate Humble’ on Wednesday 16th May.

The Kertons have a dairy farm where they have been making ice cream for 13 years and they are now diversifying to produce the first salt in Droitwich in over 100 years.

into bat – Cricket tour reunion

In the summer of 1988 the Cricket 1st XI under the leadership of Peter Iddon set off on the inaugural foreign(ish) tour to the Island of Jersey to play Victoria College.

They left the Island unbeaten, drawing the first game against Victoria College and winning the second against a Jersey Select XI by 2 wickets with the help of Duncan Hughes scoring the first (and last) Century of the season, following on from his 50 in the previous game.

Thrty years on, the same team will return to Jersey at the end of May to play again and honour the memory of their coach, Peter Iddon. Nine of the original squad of 12 from ’88 have been tracked down, with some “younger” blood from ’89 and ’90 turning out to share the leg work.

The squad will be playing two games
– Saturday 26th May, warm up against Farmers CC at their ground
– Sunday 27th May, Victoria College Team of ‘88 at Victoria College

They will be supported by Anita, Harry and Katie Iddon, Stephan and Sarah Le Marchand and Russ and Sue Mason.

Playing members are Phil O’Neil (W 82-91), Andrew Underwood (S 77-87), James Underwood (S 83-88), Robin Bishop (Ch 82-88), Chris Goodman (K 84-89), Rob Dow (Cl 84-89), Neil Robinson (H 79-89), Ben Jones (Br 82-89), Richard Tomlinson (Cl 83-90), Aidan Thompson (Cl 80-90), Matt Bourne (W 83-90), John Malins (K 85-90), Duncan Hughes (Os 84-91), JJ (John) Richardson (H 82-91) and Jamie Rogers (Cl 86-91).

Coming soon- Year of 67, 67, 69 Reunion

It was wonderful to have OV Jeremy Wright (S 64-68) visit to meet up with Development Director, Liz Elliott and Head of Alumni Relations, Sophie Borrillo-McLellan as they made final preparations for the Years of 67, 68 & 69 Reunion on June 16th. OVs are coming from far and wide to return back to King’s, some for the first time in 40 years. It will be a relaxed, informal occasion hosted in the beautiful school gardens and will be a chance for OVs to reminisce and see the school as it is now.
