The OVCC took to the field on Sunday 12 June 2022 in their first match of the 2022 Cricketer Trophy. OVCC Chairman, OV Phil Mackie (Cl 73-83) sent in the following match report:
“The Old Vigornians secured a memorable victory against last year’s finalists, King’s College Wimbledon Old Boys, in the first round of the Cricketer Trophy on Sunday June 12th.
“George Francis (Cr 11-18) was the hero. He scored 111 not out, a personal best, as the OVs chased down a target of 259 with 13 balls remaining of their forty overs. He hit eighteen boundaries, including seven sixes.
“Players from King’s sides of the eighties, nineties, noughties and teens made up the OV side in the national competition for Alumni teams. They travelled from as far as Lancaster to one of the oldest grounds in England, Sunbury-on-Thames.
“Other highlights included Henry Armstrong’s (S 11-18) 54, a magnificent return catch for Chris Drew (W 03-08), Harry Annable’s (Br 10-17) all-round performance and excellent bowling from brothers Tom Wilde (S 04-11) and Henry Wilde (Br 09-16).
“The Old Vigornians must wait a week to discover who their opponents will be in the Quarter-finals at the end of June.”
What a great match!
