OVs support King’s at 2020 Challenge Cup

There were over 1000 people watching the 2020 football Challenge Cup at Sixways Stadium on Wednesday 11th March and we were delighted that the boys in blue managed to retain the Cup, following a convincing 2-0 victory. It was wonderful to see so many OVs supporting King’s in this annual football match against local rival RGS. Head of Alumni Relations, Sophie braved the wet weather to watch the game and was pleased to see how much support there was from members of the King’s community. King’s got off to a brilliant start with a strong first-half leading to two goals. RGS came back fierce in the second half but King’s held their defence well.

Jon Sarriegui (Hon OV), Head of Football at King’s said: “After two years of achieving draws against RGS in the Challenge Cup, our team was determined to win last night. They have had a strong start to 2020 following training with Inter Milan coaches over Christmas and have been undefeated in some tightly contested matches this year. All credit to them, their commitment as a team has been incredible and they deserve last night’s result.”

Director of Sport, Jonny Mason (Hon OV) also added: “The team performed fantastically well last night, showing great composure and control in what is generally a highly-pressured environment. Even with the hardship of the flooding which has hit Worcester and King’s we have continued to provide ongoing games provisions by fulfilling fixtures and lessons by using our flexible facilities across the whole foundation.”

Well done to all the players and to RGS for another great game.
