OVs vs King’s 1st XI

At the beginning of the term is was great to be able to welcome back or most recent OVs, last year’s Upper Sixth, to play a Cricket match against the 1st XI. Due to the Pandemic, the whole of their final season of Cricket at King’s was cancelled and it was great to be able to give them some kind of send off before they depart for University and on various Gap year opportunities.

The OVs batted first and ex-1st XI captain Oliver Tsiquaye (Cr 13-20) started where he left off scoring a blistering 40 off 21, putting his team in a very strong position. Oliver Berlet (W 13-20), Alexander Lowe (S 13-20) and Zain Hussain (K 13-20) were the other main run contributors. A young 1st XI fought back well with the ball and by taking wickets at regular intervals they managed to restrict the OV’s to 158.

The 1st XI got off to a shaky start losing 3 early wickets after some fine bowling from Jack Baker (K 13-20) and Finn Chance (S 15-20). At 39 for 4 it seemed like the game could have been out of reach, however, a middle order fight back got the 1st XI back within touching distance. Havercroft, played aggressively on senior debut and top scored with 35 off 23 balls. The OV’s closed out the innings with some more fine bowling and the 1st XI eventually finished 13 runs short.

We thank the OVs for their outstanding commitment to school Cricket and this group especially will leave us some very fond memories. Below is a photo of the OVs from 2015 when they were U13.
