King's St Alban's
21 October
Lions, jabberwocks, bongaloos all present at poetry competition
From lions, jabberwocks and bongaloos to crocodiles, scorpions and homework stew, we heard it all from the King’s St Alban’s poetry competition finalists this morning in a wonderful festival of poetry recitation.
Year 6 began the event, showing us how it was done and setting a high standard for the others to follow. And the bar certainly remained high from Years 3 to 5. Hardly a prompt was required; the children really knew their poems and delivered them with very good understanding, seasoned with a dash of panache! The adjudicator, Mr Low, Head of English at King’s Worcester, told us how pleased he was by the consistency of performance and requested that he be invited to judge at next year’s event!
Congratulations to all the children, who had clearly worked so hard to learn their chosen poems, and well done to parents and teachers for supporting them in their learning. The competition is a great example of what can be achieved when home and school work together so willingly. As this was a House poetry competition, we had an overall winner: Well done to Thomas House, who succeeded by a smidgeon!
