Poetry Recitation Competition

Time for some friendly competition! This week our children will engage with the world of literature and preparing for our annual Inter-House Poetry Recitation Competition by selecting a poem of their choice by a famous or recognised writer.

With guidance and encouragement from their teachers, all of our children will get their moment in the spotlight with the opportunity to recite their poem to their form group.

Every year, the sheer range of poetry that our children select – from the hilarious to the serious, from the contemplative to the downright crazy! It always ensures plenty of entertainment for both children and teachers.

The most promising performances in each House go forward to the recitation competition final in the John Moore Theatre, to be adjudicated by Mr Andrew Maund, Head of English at King’s Worcester.

To find out more information about how we instil a love of learning in our children, please enjoy hearing from Mr Braithwaite, Director of Studies at King’s St Alban’s, on our YouTube channel.

Here at King’s St Alban’s, pupils have opportunities to sample and excel at a range of activities, including art & craft, aqua fun, ballet, chess, cricket, drama, dance, fencing, football, gymnastics, keep calm & relax, hammer beads, hockey, karate, Newspaper Club, knit & natter, Nature Club, netball, running, rugby, singing, dance & create, and swim squad. We like to host events, like the annual poetry recitation competition to allow children hands-on access to a range of different subjects.
