Rainforest animals discovered in Year 1!

Excitement filled the air in the Year 1 classroom ahead of a visit from Animal Mania for a Rainforest Animal workshop.

The pupils were thrilled (if a little bit apprehensive!) to take a trip through the tropical rainforest and to hold an array of rainforest creatures from scaly lizards to slimy tree frogs, slithery corn snakes and giant millipedes; there was even a baby tortoise! Throughout this interactive workshop the children engaged in their learning, finding out about the four layers of the rainforest, the different creatures that make their home in each layer and the food they liked to eat. It was great to see that the pupils were able to identify why each creature suited the environment they inhabit.

The children were able to demonstrate confidently their learning from their ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ topic this term. Being true ambassadors for King’s St Alban’s, they were impeccably behaved throughout the workshop. A unanimous highlight for the cohort was most definitely meeting Rocky the Sugar Glider, who amazed the children by flying from the top of their heads into his nesting box!

It is safe to say that the children thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon with the Animal Mania team – thank you for coming and bringing this term’s topic to life.
