King's St Alban's

15 December

Raising the roof with festive cheer.

There was a festive feel in the Pre-Prep Hall on Tuesday afternoon for the final Informal Concert of the Autumn Term and indeed -2021. Always a popular event, this Christmas Informal Concert was so popular that it was necessary to split it into two separate events to fit everyone in!

Years 1, 2 and 3 took to the stage first in front of a live audience filled with parents.  There was definitely a seasonal feel to many of their items, which included Christmas favourites such as Away in a Manger, Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer and Rockin’ around the Christmas Tree. This part of the concert also saw our youngest ever performer take to the stage as Geoffrey (Nursery) joined his brother Bertie (Y1) for their rendition of Jingle Bells.

The Prep School children (Year 4 through to Year 6) took over at 4pm. Emily got things off to a fine start with her lively performance of Santa Claus is Coming to Town. The programme then continued with a wide range of styles, from classical pieces such as a Bouree by Telemann (Harry – violin), to the haunting Hedwig’s Theme (Laura – piano). Once again, Christmas songs abounded and we enjoyed traditional festive carols such as We Three Kings (Jessica – recorder) and the beautiful French carol Il est né, le divin enfant (Mia – violin), as well as popular songs such as I wish it could be Christmas everyday (Alice – voice). The latter even included some audience participation to end the concert in style!

This was a wonderful occasion, with a total of 32 children from Nursery – Y6 taking part. It was clear that all the children had worked very hard to prepare their pieces and they did themselves proud. Musical talent is alive and well at King’s St Alban’s – Well done everyone!
