Reception amaze with their French linguist skills!

Having been practising hard, learning all their lines and songs, a very excitable Reception cohort hosted their assembly….in French! The Pre-Prep Hall was packed full of mums, dads and grandparents, as well as our friends from King’s St Alban’s Nursery.

To kick-start the assembly, all of the children introduced themselves before naming their favourite colour, all in French, of course, and all beautifully clearly, with fabulous pronunciation. Next up was the first musical number of the morning; the audience was treated to a French version of ‘Heads Shoulders Knees and Toes a familiar tune for many children in English, complete with fabulous actions. Once again the cohort sung very clearly and most certainly had the audience tapping their toes, if not joining in with the actions!

The children then retold the story of The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly. The acting was superb and the French language very impressive. The Reception children rounded off a fine performance with a counting song familiar to all of the Pre-Prep children, who gamely joined in. Bravo Reception; as Mr Chapman put it, this was “a lovely start to the day.”

Learning the basics in Nursery, children at King’s St Alban’s have weekly French lessons from Reception onwards. After demonstrating such super linguistic skills today, we are excited to see how their French progresses over the next few years as they continue their journey in the Pre-Prep and on to the Prep School in a few years time.

Well done to all of the children that took part; the audience congratulated the children on their performance before being treated to a coffee and a croissant – how very French!
