King's St Alban's

6 October

Reception cohort beam with pride.

Teachers and parents alike were very proud of the King’s St Alban’s Reception cohort as they presented their “Share With Me” workshop for their parents on Tuesday. It was a delight to see the children enthusiastically show their mummies and daddies some of the exciting learning that takes place in Reception. The workshop included the children demonstrating some brilliant sitting and listening whilst we told the adults about our day in Reception. The children then sang our phonics starter, which showed how much they have learnt in just a few weeks of school. They blended some short words from our phonics bag and said all the sounds perfectly.

The children then had a choice of activities to go to with their adult, which was a joy to watch! There were maths activities, where the children had to make a tower by putting the numbered bricks into order and a water blaster activity, where each child picked a domino, counted the spots and then water squirted the correct number on the wall. The children had phonics activities where they had to pick a letter and practise forming it correctly in a tray of flour. There was also a game where the children had a go at reading the short word and then blended it with the correct lettered pots using their spelling wands. This week in Reception we are reading The Little Red Hen and the children were keen to retell the story using all the characters and props; this proved to be very popular with the children! There was also an art activity where the children had to make a person using lots of collage materials.

It was very special to have parents into school to give them a taste of Reception. We finished the workshop with our end of the day song Tickly Rain and then the children bravely said their goodbyes. We are so grateful to our Reception parents for giving up their time to come into Reception and the children were so happy to be able to share a little of Reception school life.
