Resilience and Kindness to the Fore at Santa Scramble
Our youngest pupils have all demonstrated two of the King’s Foundation’s core values at today’s Santa Scramble. As they took part, the values of resilience and kindness were clearly on display.
Children from Kindergarten 1 to Year Two were tasked with raising money for our school charities by taking part in a Santa-themed sponsored run. The money raised for our charities currently stands at £1,822, which is a truly impressive total when you consider that only half of the school has been involved!
The inclement weather this week has made conditions on the top field a little soggier than we would have hoped for, but Miss Lane and Mrs Leatherdale skilfully managed to mark out a course avoiding the worst of the mud. The children showed plenty of resilience on their runs, digging deep to make their way safely around the course. There was also plenty of kindness as the children supported their friends around the course. The focus of today’s run was very much on fun! The more competitive element will be seen in the Spring Term, as pupils take on the House Cross Country.
Dressed in Santa hats, pupils slipped and slid their way around the course, laughing merrily as they went. Year Two were the first to attempt the run and, over the course of the afternoon, we worked our way down through the year groups, finishing with our Kindergarten 1 children.
Each race finished at the top of The Mound, truly testing our little runners’ legs! The wonderful atmosphere provided by the ever-supportive parent body ensured that all pupils found that last burst of energy needed to scramble up The Mound. As always, the event was incredibly well supported by a large contingent of friends and family. Thank you to all those who gathered together sponsorship money, and to those who supported our mini Santas on their run today.
