Last weekend the U14 Rugby Sevens team travelled to Cheltenham to participate in the Dean Close Sevens Tournament, where they won the Bowl Competition.
This was the first tournament of the season, giving the team an exciting opportunity to showcase their talents and the training they have been doing so far this term.
Being placed in the toughest pool against Clifton College, Radley and Malvern College, the boys knew it would be a challenging day, with the added pressure of missing some important players.
The first game of the pool was against Clifton, with the team losing 5-19. They then faced Radley and just missed out in a competitive game, losing 7-14. All was to play for in the last game against Malvern College, where the team played excellently and dominated the game, winning 24-0.
Coming third in the pool, we progressed into the Bowl Competition. The semi-final saw a great game against Bromsgrove School. In what was a tight game the team showed fantastic composure under the pressure, winning in the last play of the game with a conversion from Seth E.
In the final the boys faced Millfield, where a dominant display saw them win the game 19-12, winning the Bowl Competition.
A testament to the strength of their pool, Clifton won the Cup (1st), Radley won the Plate (2nd), we won the Bowl (3rd) and Malvern College came 4th.
Coach of the U14 Sevens team, Mr Gillgrass adds “The team progressed significantly during the day and will give learnt a lot, which they will be able to take into the remaining 5 tournaments of the season.”
Congratulations to all the boys involved!
