King's Hawford

Senior Choir sing in celebration.

The King’s Hawford community, including staff, parents and fellow pupils, are extremely proud of our King’s Hawford Senior Choir, who performed in a special celebration service for the 40th Anniversary of St Richard’s Hospice. The celebration took place on Wednesday night in Worcester Cathedral.

In between accounts of the history of the hospice, readings, poems, and prayers, the choir sang two very contrasting pieces. As requested by St Richard’s Hospice, the organisers of the service, they first performed a joint number with the Years Seven and Eight Choir from RGS Worcester, combining a total of 100 voices. With additional harmonies provided by some of the older pupils’ lower voices, Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton brought tears to the eyes of many in the 1000-strong congregation. The contrasting dynamics enhanced by the impressive acoustic of the Cathedral created a sensitive performance with emotional depth.

The second piece was a lively Spanish song called Cantar! by Jay Althouse. The children loved the uplifting melody and syncopated rhythms, and their harmony was clearly secure and well rehearsed. Their performances were superb, and the children commented on how amazing it felt to be part of such a huge choir. Mrs Hughes is very grateful to the children for the commitment they show to Senior Choir and the responsibility of representing the School at public functions, and also to their parents for their continued support.

King’s Hawford are always delighted to support St Richard’s Hospice, an independent charity which cares for adults with serious progressive illnesses, improving their quality of life from diagnosis through treatment to their last days, and supporting those important to them. We wish Mrs Palmer, a member of the King’s Hawford staff, the very best of luck as she embarks on walking the 31 miles Worcestershire Way on Friday 12th June in aid of St Richard’s Hospice.
