Forty Fifth Form – Upper Sixth pupils have returned from the Christmas break buzzing after their recent trip to Manchester City Football Club Training Academy.
Upper Sixth pupil Oliver offers reports on the experience, which for many was the trip of a lifetime:
On Saturday 18th of Dec 40 (FF, L6, U6) footballers traveled to Manchester with Mr Sarriegui, Mr Shone, Mr Williams and Dr Poole.
After three hours on the coach, we arrived in Manchester, where we visited the National Football Museum. Seeing all the pieces of football history was a special experience for many of us, as we got to see things like Pele’s shirt and the original FA football rules. That afternoon we arrived at the Manchester City Football Training academy and completed our first session with the City Academy coaches.
Across the three days of training, we were able to experience the sort of training that academy players go through every day, working on our team shape, passing, and pressing. We finished that evening with dinner at the training ground, topping off the academy experience.
The next day, we were up early to get to our training session at 9 am, before leaving to go and watch the 3rd XI play their game. Despite a loss, the team didn’t give up and scored arguably the best goal of the game, with a free kick from halfway. Then it was back to Manchester for the 1st and 2nd XI matches vs Moston Tigers. Both teams came away with wins, 5-2 to the Firsts and 3-1 to the Seconds against some very skillful opponents.
After bingo night with Mr Williams, we were ready for our last day of training. Our final day of training ended with a round-robin tournament between the teams which capped off a special experience. Before returning home, we had a behind the scenes tour of the super impressive Etihad stadium.
We are all looking forward to the upcoming season where we will put many of the skills that we have learned into place, and we hope to continue our good form in January. You can keep up to date with the football season on the @KSWFootball twitter.
