Service of Thanksgiving for Marc (Boggy) Roberts

Monday 8th October saw a tremendous turnout in Worcester Cathedral for a Service of Thanksgiving for the life of Marc Roberts (Hon OV). During his 37 years at King’s as Maths Teacher, Master of Rugby and Housemaster, Marc touched the lives of so many Old Vigornians. It was touching to see so many people there to pay tribute to Marc and to support his family, including Marc’s widow Julia (Hon OV).

The service was presided over by King’s Rev’d Mark Dorsett (Hon OV), with readings by Andrew Underwood (S 77-88) and Nick Stephens (Br 77-84). Nick also led a private service for the family earlier in the day. The address was given by Peter Gwilliam (Hon OV), a great friend and former colleague of Marc’s. Sadly, due to travel restrictions, Marc and Julia’s son Joey was unable to travel back to the UK for the service, however he sent in some pre-recorded words of tribute and he also sang ‘Bali Hai’ from South Pacific, a musical Marc always enjoyed.

After the service, Julia invited everyone to the Diglis House Hotel. This gave opportunity for OVs, former parents and the wider King’s family to meet together, remember fondly their time with Marc and celebrate the many ways in which he had a positive impact on their lives. As we are sure Marc would have wanted, some OVs were raising their glasses to Marc well into the evening.

It was a fitting farewell: a sad day to say goodbye to such a cherished member of the King’s family, but full to the brim with appreciation, thanks and fond memories.
