Spectacular Woodwind Showcase
Last Friday, the Barn was filled with music, joy, and pride as we hosted a truly spectacular concert featuring our talented Woodwind pupils.
Under the expert guidance of Mrs Allsop—who inspires and teaches over twenty budding musicians each week across a rich array of woodwind instruments—this event was a shining example of musical passion and progress. Mrs Allsop also leads the vibrant Wind Band on Friday mornings, and their performance was a highlight of the afternoon.
The concert was a delightful journey through solos, duets, trios, and full ensemble pieces, showcasing not only technical ability but also the joy of making music together. From the youngest performer, Theodore T in Year 2 playing his Clarineo with confidence and charm, to our accomplished Year 6 pupils giving memorable farewell performances before heading to senior school, every moment sparkled with enthusiasm and talent.
Audiences were captivated by the impressive trios: Elizabeth N, Jess K, and Pip K on flutes and clarinet; Charles N, Finn MP, and Lyra H on saxophones; Freddie W, Nicholas HT, and Ruby K combining saxophone, bassoon, and flute; and Charlotte F, Jack J, and Austin R with a dynamic mix of saxophones and bassoon. Each group demonstrated remarkable ensemble skills, listening and responding to each other with maturity and musical sensitivity.
In addition to group pieces, many pupils performed solos with confidence and flair, offering an exciting mix of musical styles. The programme ranged from the playful rhythms of Bare Necessities to the majestic beauty of Holst’s Jupiter—a testament to the students’ versatility and hard work.
The concert concluded on a high note with a rousing, fun-filled performance of the Wallace and Gromit Theme by the Wind Band, which had the audience smiling and eager for more.
A heartfelt thank you to Mrs Allsop for her unwavering dedication, and for organising such an uplifting and memorable celebration of our woodwind musicians.
