Spirit of Christmas rises to rafters of Cathedral

The rafters of the cathedral were well and truly raised by the spirit of Christmas on Tuesday evening as the children of King’s Hawford gathered together for their annual carol service. Michelle began proceedings superbly with a skilful piano recital, which certainly set the tone for a wonderful evening of music and worship.

Barnaby delivered the prestigious solo for Once in Royal David’s City with poise and feeling and Year 6 children continued the carol, processing by candlelight behind acolytes Max and Poppy and crucifer Hudson to join the rest of the School. Beginning their final carol service in this magical way is an honour that any Year 6 pupil will remember with pride throughout the rest of their King’s journey.

Spirit of Christmas

The congregation listened to confident, expressive readers, who told the story of the nativity through Bible extracts and expressed the joy and blessing of Jesus’s birth through poetry and prayer. Senior and Junior Choirs added to the magic with their performances of carols by Lyn Marsh and our own Director of Music and Performance, Sophie Hughes. We heard from our Headmaster, Mr Butt, Headmaster of the King’s Foundation Mr Doodes, Reverend Dorsett and the Dean of Worcester Cathedral, who spoke of this as a time to be thankful for the many gifts God provides.

It was wonderful to come together as a King’s Hawford community to celebrate the joy of Christmas and the confident, happy and accomplished children that it nurtures. We hope that the spirit of Christmas raised tonight stays with all members of the congregation.
