Sport Round up
U9 and U11 Athletics at RGS The Grange
On the final Friday of last half term, a group of Year 4 and Year 6 athletes competed in a track-based athletics competition at RGS The Grange.
The children showed fantastic speed, endurance, determination and resilience competing alongside their peers from RGS The Grange, Winterfold and King’s St Alban’s across the 80m, 200m and 600m distances. It was a wonderful way to finish the first half of the summer term and the children should all be very proud of how they performed. A special mention to Charles C and Iza M-P for finishing first in their races.
U10 Cricket vs Elmley Castle
On Wednesday afternoon some Year 5 cricketers travelled to Elmley Castle Cricket Club for a fixture with Elmley Castle School, a continuation of a recent partnership between the two schools that began during the Football term. What followed was a thoroughly enjoyable match, with some excellent cricket, that was played in great spirits. Fielding first, the Hawford bowling group did a great job, demonstrating improved bowling accuracy and control. Highlights of the innings included wickets from Freddie W, Johannes K, Jasmine O, Daisy E, Harry J and Florrie W. In our batting innings, the Hawford children found them up against a very strong and economical bowling attack and were made to work hard to find run-scoring opportunities. Elmley fielded brilliantly and pulled off several impressive stops as well as a number of run outs from direct hits. The highlight of the Hawford batting innings was a classy front foot drive down the ground for four runs by Charlotte F. It was a great afternoon, enjoyed by all, and we look forward to continuing to foster the relationship between the two schools in the coming years.
