King's Hawford

Sporting fun to kick start Charity Day.
Last Friday the King’s Hawford community came together for the first Charity Day of the academic year. Having been involved in the selection for this year’s charity partners, pupils were keen to raise vital funds. Inspired by one of our chosen charities, Get Kids Going, pupils and staff were invited to come into school dressed in sports kit or dressed as their favourite sports personality. There was an array of brilliant costumes and teachers struggled to award prizes for best costumes!
Mrs Knight and Miss Kingston were dressed as the 118-118 duo, Mrs Leatherdale and Miss Lane inspired Reception in their cricket and rugby outfits and Indie F in Year 1 made a brilliant Sky Brown!
During breaks, staff ran a very successful cake sale. The School was overwhelmed by the generosity of pupils and their parents. There was a wide variety of cakes, pastries, biscuits and sweet treats on offer. Each break-time a queue of children quickly formed, ensuring that all of the cakes were snapped up!
Members of staff ran a range of sports challenges on the hard surface during break. The blindfold netball challenge proved very popular: all six prizes were won! Mr Stigant was particularly impressed with Georgia P, Arthur O and Will, who were amongst the winners. Pupils had several attempts at getting a netball into the netball net whilst wearing a blindfold.
Reception had their very own challenge run by Miss Lane and Mrs Leatherdale. Children took it in turns to get a ball into the goal. All of Reception took part and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
The event raised just short of £800 for our three charity partners – Project Gambia, Get Kids Going and the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust. You can read all about how and why these charities were selected as partners by clicking here.
