Sporting Highlights: A Week of Great Moments

It has been another fantastic week of sporting highlights! Congratulations to all our pupils for their incredible performances and determination.

Tuesday 25th February

U9 Netball v King’s Hawford – Miss Jordan

The U9s had a wonderful afternoon up at King’s Hawford.  We split into 2 teams across their two courts and played a rotation of matches against their 3 teams. There was some super play, even though it was the first time many of them had played the 5 a side game. The girls were aware of their different positions and where they were allowed to go. They also were very mature when changing positions and then working out the next position. We had some good passages of play both in attack and defence. However, Hawford were the stronger teams on the day. We need to work little more on our competitiveness and snatching the ball in. Well done to Maddie and Elodie who were awarded player of the matches for their respective teams.

U9/8 Football v Winterfold – Mr Jenkinson

On Tuesday, 25th February, the Under 8/9 B football team travelled to Winterfold School for what proved to be a thrilling match. The team demonstrated outstanding effort, sportsmanship, and skill throughout the game, making it an exciting and competitive afternoon of football.

The match was closely contested, with both teams playing some impressive football. Jeremiah played a key role in the game, scoring both of St. Alban’s goals, contributing to the team’s strong performance. Despite their best efforts, the game ended in a 2-2 draw, showcasing the competitive nature of the encounter.

All members of the team put in a solid performance, with Max, Harvey, Magson, Gabriel, Hugo, Jeremiah, and Harvey each playing an important part. Their teamwork, dedication, and positive attitude were evident throughout the match. Their impressive display on the field reflected well on St. Alban’s, and they represented the school with pride and respect.

The match was not only about the football but also about enjoying the game and showing good sportsmanship, which the team did in abundance. The players also showed great respect to their opponents and each other, creating a really positive atmosphere throughout the afternoon.

A big thank you goes to the parents and relatives who attended the match and cheered on the team. Your support is always appreciated and plays a crucial role in encouraging the boys.

Overall, it was an enjoyable and closely fought match, and the boys can be proud of their performance. Well done to everyone involved, and we look forward to the next match!

Player of the Match = Harvey.

U9/8 Football v Winterfold – Mr Hooman

Tuesday afternoon saw a fantastic display of football from our U9/8 team in their fixture against Winterfold School. The progress these boys have made this term was clear for all to see, with great teamwork, determination, and skill on show throughout the match.

Daniel and Max shared goalkeeping duties brilliantly, pulling off some excellent saves and distributing the ball with confidence to set up attacks. In defence, Akshay and Archie H formed a formidable partnership, reading the game well, winning back possession, and making smart decisions to either drive forward into space or find a teammate with a pass. Archie H came agonisingly close to scoring, his shot narrowly missing the near post!

In midfield, Milan and Rudy showed great energy and attacking intent, constantly driving at their opponents and looking to create opportunities. However, it was George who particularly stood out with his tireless work rate, covering every inch of the pitch and never giving up. His hard work nearly paid off when he struck the post with a fantastic effort—he truly deserved a goal for his performance.

Overall, it was an excellent afternoon of football, and every player should be proud of their efforts. Well done, boys!

Wednesday 26th February

U11 A, B & C Netball v King’s Hawford A & B – Wednesday 26th February -Report by Zara Walmsley (Year 6)

King’s Hawford recently drove over to our school for a friendly match. We had an entertaining and successful afternoon of netball. Our A team won 8 goals to 4. Our B team and C team then won 4 goals to 1. We hope to do as well at IAPS next Friday! For match tea, we ate pizza and flapjacks. We had lots of fun playing and mixing with Hawford. It was a very happy match.

U11 Football v Winterfold – Mr Jenkinson

On Wednesday, 26th February, the Under 11 A football team played a challenging match against a strong Winterfold team at King’s School Worcester’s Cinderella Ground. Despite being without the regular Year 5 players, who were away on their residential trip, the boys selected for this match showed exceptional determination, perseverance, and teamwork throughout the game.

The team faced a tough opponent in Winterfold, but the players stood strong and gave their all. The defence was solid, with Archie, Ben F, Arlo, and Ben J all playing key roles in preventing many attacks. Their hard work and resilience ensured that Winterfold had to work hard for every opportunity.

In midfield, Charles, Henry, and Oscar showed great composure and creativity, winning possession and distributing the ball effectively. Their contributions were vital in keeping St. Alban’s in the match at half time.

Once again, Harry played well in goal, making a number of commanding saves to keep the team in the game. His quick reflexes and determination were crucial in denying Winterfold several scoring chances.

In attack, Will and Henry worked hard to try and create opportunities, showing energy and effort in their pursuit of a goal. However, despite their best efforts, the match ended with a win for Winterfold, but the 0-4 scoreline did not reflect the team’s dedication and hard work.

All members of the team; Archie, Will, Harry, Arlo, Ben J, Charles, Oscar, Freddy, Henry, and Ben F should be proud of their performance. They all played exceptionally well, showing great sportsmanship and representing St. Alban’s with pride and respect. Whilst this was a challenging match, the boys can be proud of their effort and commitment.

A special thanks goes to the parents and relatives who came out to support the team. Your encouragement and presence helps the boys and we greatly appreciate your continued support.

Player of the Match = Charles.
