U9 Boys Football vs RGS The Grange

On Tuesday the u9 boys kicked off their Spring term football fixtures with a visit to RGS The Grange.

The boys worked really hard against strong opponents in what was a battling performance. Cassian W made several excellent saves during his spell in goal in the first half and Rupert T, Isaac H and Gabriel C all worked tirelessly in defence. Meanwhile, Bruce W, Joshy R and Thomas H linked up well on several occasions to create goal scoring opportunities.

The boys played some really nice passing football at times and were able to score two quick-fire goals towards the middle of the first half. The focus for next week’s fixture will be to continue to look for teammates on a more consistent basis. Mr Hodgkins was especially impressed with Bruce and Thomas who were names as joint players of the match.

U11 Boys Football – Matty Thacker Tournament

On Wednesday afternoon a group of year 6 boys competed in the annual Matty Thacker football tournament at Winterfold School.

The boys were one of 13 teams from across the region that were competing for the shield, cup and plate trophies on the day. The Hawford team started their group phase matches with two tightly contested games against RGS The Grange and Westhouse, both resulting in close 1-0 defeats. Despite this early setback, the boys remained resilient and played some superb, dynamic passing football in the remaining group games, securing victory in all three matches against The Elms, Hereford Cathedral School and Beaudesert. James B, Arthur O and Arthur A were solid in defence and Thomas C made several outstanding saves in the Hawford goal. Meanwhile, Oliver G, Jude R and Henry K all chipped in with important goals ably assisted by the hard work and passing ability of George PW and Harry G. As a result, Hawford finished the group stage in third place and thus qualified for the Cup semi finals where they would face off against Wolverhampton Grammar School.

After dominating much of the possession, the boys couldn’t quite break the deadlock and the game went to penalties with the final score at 0-0. After Arthur A and Jude R successfully converted their penalties, Thomas demonstrated superb heroics to save two Wolverhampton penalties and send his team through to the final. The final against Hereford Cathedral School followed in much the same pattern as the semi-final with Hawford fashioning several chances but not quite being able to find the back of the net. As the boys prepared themselves for another penalty shootout they could not have expected what was to follow.

Each team’s penalty takers matched each other stride for stride and with 8 penalties taken each, the score was 6-6. James B stepped up to take the final Hawford penalty and calmly slotted it away. Thomas then pulled off another fantastic penalty save to secure a 7-6 penalty shootout victory for King’s Hawford.

Netball – King’s Hawford vs. Hereford Cathedral

Mrs Beech’s Team

The Netball season kicked off with an intense and highly competitive home game against Hereford Cathedral.

Despite the foggy conditions, both teams showcased excellent skill and determination in a strong end-to-end contest fraught with challenges and feisty play.

The centre court was a hive of activity, with Captain Millie, Charlotte, Florrie, and Iza demonstrating excellent movement and control. In the defensive D, Marnie stood out with her relentless pressure and timely interceptions, supported effectively by Pippa P. The wing players, Thea and Elizabeth, provided solid support, while Olivia G, Marnie, and Millie shone with consistent shooting.

The team made remarkable progress throughout the game, trying out new positions with incredible energy and frequently turning the ball around. Their teamwork and ability to gel as a unit were evident, and Millie’s natural leadership and motivational team talks kept spirits high.

Mrs. Beech expressed her delight at the performance and the exciting prospects for the season ahead. Thank you to family and friends who supported the girls in the first home game this year.

Miss Lake’s Team

The Year 5 girls faced a tough challenge against Hereford Cathedral School, with many of their players a year older than our girls.

Nonetheless, we held their own and the game was end-to-end. The game was fast paced, with both teams making key interceptions. Robyn on the wing and Izzy in defence were instrumental in creating turnovers, while Daisy as goalkeeper was quick to take back line passes, catching the opposition off guard. Valerie and Ruby worked tirelessly throughout the 35-minute match, offering strong support from their central and attacking positions. Charlotte P and India supported their team well in various positions. The team showed resilience and great teamwork, putting in a commendable performance for their first game of the season. Hereford Cathedral awarded Izzy player of the match.

Mrs Butt’s Year 6 Team

Mrs Butt’s team kicked off the season with a very competitive game against Hereford Cathedral this week.

As the fog descended the team remained bright and full of energy and excitement. Sophie led as captain in Centre court and linked nicely with Rosie and Olivia W while Pip K created some beautiful passages of play to initiate a quick attack. Jasmine and Lyra were the starting shooting duo and were able to establish a solid score putting three on the board in the first quarter. Zara and Mary made for a formidable defense with Mary blocking and intercepting all of Herefords attacking play and minimising the score particularly in the third quarter. Zara and Adelyn then took responsibility for the attacking third and worked the ball nicely around the goal circle resulting in a number of goals from Zara and a half time score of 6-3.

All the girls continued to rotate positions and show their skills and versatility in both attack and defense with Jasmine, Lyra, Sophie and Zara all switching through every third of the court

It was a pleasure to see year 5 and 6 girls working together to play some fantastic flowing Netball at this early stage and to kick the season off with a well-earned win.

Miss Holtham’s mixed U10 & U11 Team

Miss Holtham’s team played exceptionally well in their netball fixture against Hereford Cathedral.

In the first quarter, they demonstrated strong passing and movement. During the second and third quarters, Hereford stepped up their game, challenging the team and making them work harder. However, in the final quarter, the team came together brilliantly, showing great teamwork to finish the game with a draw. My player of the match was Jess K she fought and worked tirelessly in defence and attacking positions.
