Sports Report Week 4

This week many of our Prep School pupils have been involved with competitive fixtures. The U8 and U9 boys and the U10 girls were in action against The Downs, Malvern, whilst the U8 girls played netball against RGS The Grange.

Boys’ Football:

U8 & U9 v The Downs, Malvern

On Tuesday afternoon the Year 3 and 4 boys travelled to The Downs Malvern School for two football fixtures. It was wonderful to see the boys applying all of their hard work from their games afternoons since their last matches. Hawford put in two dominant displays with improved passing and moving. The U8 boys scored a flurry of goals and the highlight from the U9 match was James B’s screamer of a shot from outside the box into the top corner of the Downs’ goal. We are all looking forward to next week’s foundation fixtures against King’s St Alban’s.

Girls’ Netball:

U10 v The Downs, Malvern

The U10 girls travelled to The Downs, Malvern, to play their first match of Bee Ball.  They showed some aspects of great netball, finding space when attacking and marking when defending.  The opposition was tough (and tall), but the girls worked hard and there were some great counter-attacks.  Isla H-M’s goal in the first quarter had her team and the spectators cheering and there was excellent shooting technique and marking by Issie F (who deserves special praise as it was her first fixture for the school!) Player of the match went to Michelle Z.  Special mention must also go to Erin L and Rose G, who played up for one of the Year 6 teams this week.

U8 v RGS The Grange

The U8 girls travelled to RGS The Grange on Tuesday to play their first ever netball fixture. Three small-sided games took place and each team demonstrated some excellent play. The girls quickly found their feet and it was clear that their game awareness improved as the play went on. There were some great goals scored in all of the matches, especially as the girls haven’t had much practice of shooting using the posts. Stars of the week go to Pippa P, Chloe T and Izadora M-P.
