U8/9 Cricket v The Elms

The weather that we have become accustomed to this term didn’t disappoint and we had another lovely afternoon of cricket, with the beautiful Malvern Hills as a backdrop. We won the toss and put The Elms in to bat. Will B opened the bowling and got us off to a good start, hitting the stumps in the first over. Louie bowled with real pace, but also kept a good line and length. After a slightly shaky start, Brody listened well and showed great improvement, as his over went on. The fielding on show was also impressive, with the team getting several run outs and Nell rounding off our wicket haul with an excellent ball that hit off-stump. The last pair for the Elms upped the run rate, setting a good target of 274. On the whole, we put in a good batting performance. Charlotte showed good improvement from last week and Archie hit some strong shots. Ben and Harry worked very well as a pair and really started to get the idea of good calling and being positive in their running, without being reckless. Coming into the team this week, Harry D hit some nice shots and also called well. Marnie batted well, to go along with her impressive bowling and well-taken catch earlier in the match. With an over to go, things were close, and we were in the hunt for victory. Unfortunately, The Elms managed to take a wicket and we fell just short. However, this was of little importance in comparison to the enjoyable afternoon that everyone had, and the learning and progression that was seen.

U8/U9 B Cricket v The Elms

On Tuesday afternoon the U8/U9 B cricket team had a lovely match over at The Elms. The weather was fair and the children in good spirits. We fielded first and everyone was bowling overarm – excellent. There was some superb bowling by Luca and Mark. We kept The Elms score to a reasonable amount. When batting we had to lend a couple of children to The Elms as they had lost some to illness and injury. Our children took it in turns and played well for the other team. Our batting was excellent with Mark gaining a couple of fours. Well done to Ivy who was awarded opposition’s batter of the match and well done to Edith who was awarded opposition’s bowler of the match. We managed to top their score and therefore won our match. Well done all!

U10 Cricket Festival at RGS The Grange

This week the Year 5 cricket team participated in the RGS 8-a-side cricket tournament on what was a glorious afternoon of sunshine. The boys played in three very entertaining games, batting in pairs, in 8-over games. In the first game the boys played against Abberley School and were unfortunate to lose by six runs as they bowled exceptionally well, with Theo and Harry achieving excellent bowling figures. The second game, against a very strong RGS The Grange 1 team, the boys improved on their batting performance but came up short of the total to but continued to bowl consistently well and improve their fielding skills. Reuben and Joel took charge at the crease scoring an excellent 32 runs between them. In the third game of the afternoon against the RGS The Grange 2, the boys’ level of performance peaked with a fine display with the bat clocking up an incredible total of 95 runs! Joel and Harry were a dominant force opening the batting, hitting numerous boundaries. Francis and Tom batted second and continued the attack, scoring nineteen. Third pair in were Tom and Monty who scored an excellent 27 runs, with Reuben and Rook almost reaching the team total of 100 by scoring 11 runs. Well done boys!
