U11 Girls Hockey v Blue Coat School
Having boarded the King’s Hawford Minibus, the U11 girls ventured up the motorway to Blue Coat School in Birmingham.
From the start, the girls worked well together as a team and made some good passes to each other, showing strong play in midfield. Erin and Poppy were particularly versatile in the positions they played, showing excellent skills in attacking and defending.
As Blue Coat pushed forward to attack, defenders Rose and Arya collaborated well to put pressure on their opponents. Once they had cleared the ball, the team persevered in finding space, moving the ball quickly and demonstrating attacking play.
King’s Hawford improved in communicating and spacing out throughout the game, resulting in a well-deserved goal scored by Poppy.
It was great to see the girls playing well and utilising skills that we have been practising in club sessions and lessons, whether that was shadowing, attacking down the wings, taking quick “tap-and-go”s or making things easier for team-mates with loud and positive calling. The rest of the game was played out with continuing strength in defence and attack with some super saves from Edith.
A well-deserved player of the match went to Edith, who showed great resilience in goal.
In preparation for their transition to KSW, some Year 6 boys from KSA and KH joined together this week for a rugby festival at Millfield Prep School. Despite only having had one session together, which was led by Mr Mason and Mr Williams, the boys quickly found their rhythm, playing some outstanding attacking rugby. The work undertaken by Mr Mason on rucking was evident as the boys maintained possession through multiple phases, which allowed them to score some excellent tries. Defensively the boys worked hard on their defensive structures and as the afternoon went on they realised the importance of putting pressure on the opposition . It was fantastic to see the camaraderie grow over the course of the day, both on and off the field, and I am sure the bus journey home will be one the boys will talk about for years to come. Both Mr Cook and Mr Russell thoroughly enjoyed working with the boys and they were almost as pleased as the boys on their return!
