Sports Reports: Kick starting the season!

U11 Boys Rugby v RGS The Grange

The under 11 rugby side travelled to RGS The Grange for the first competitive rugby of the season. The boys played some fabulous attacking rugby and should be proud of their efforts. The highlight of their performance was their incredible defensive performance, the boys were organised and aggressive denying The Grange the space to attack. In attack the boys carried the ball impressively and were organised and aggressive when competing for the ball.

U10 Boys Rugby vs RGS The Grange

The Year 5 boys roared into their first season of full contact rugby with two excellent home fixtures against RGS The Grange on Wednesday afternoon. Both matches were played in great spirit and this resulted in two highly competitive and enjoyable matches. The boys in Mr Stigant’s squad performed superbly as a team and produced a dominant display in which they hardly missed a tackle, whilst those in Mr Hodgkins’s squad demonstrated enthusiasm and hard work in possession of the ball. Both sets of boys ran well with ball in hand and scored several tries. There were especially impressive performances from Will, Oscar, George, Oliver and Archie. We have lots of new targets to work on with the boys and look forward to developing further following next week’s residential trip to Duke’s Barn.

U9 Rugby Festival

The U9 boys enjoyed their first competitive experience of contact rugby on Tuesday afternoon at the RGS The Grange U9 rugby festival. We were hugely impressed with the performances of all of the boys; they have very quickly developed their organisation and positional awareness and already look like a strong team unit. It was great to see so much bravery and commitment in defence as well as strong, agile running in possession of the ball. We were especially pleased with the performances of Barnaby, Harry, Shaan, Jude and Arthur. The boys can now enjoy their preparations for the next U9 rugby festival at Abberley Hall on Tuesday 4th October.

U9 Hockey v RGS The Grange

Miss Lake’s team made a superb start in their match against RGS The Grange, netting two goals within the first quarter. Thea and Olivia G made a strong attacking pair up front and there was excellent support from Elizabeth throughout, all showing confidence on the ball. Mary worked hard in defence throughout the game, showing good game awareness, thinking ahead as to what RGS were going to do. Whilst there was plenty to be proud of, the girls still have some work to do on their defensive skills and will do so in their upcoming Games lessons. Miss Lake’s star player of the match went to Jess, whose first match it was, for some great defending of our goal, and RGS’s star player went to Elizabeth.
