U8/9 Football Festival at RGS The Grange

The U8 and U9 boys travelled over to RGS The Grange for a football festival on Tuesday afternoon. After the week’s break for half term, they were keen to start how they ended the previous half term. That is exactly what they did, with two brilliant performances against The Elms and RGS The Grange. Some lovely movement and passing phases between Rook and Monty finished with the ball in the net. The next game was against Blue Coat, where Sam was solid as ever and did well carrying the ball into attacking areas. Arslan did well to keep out the opposition and made a number of good saves. Moor Park were King’s St Alban’s next opponents, where the boys played brilliantly but their finishing let them down slightly, and were only able to convert one of their many chances on goal. The King’s St Alban’s U8/9 team came out of the group unbeaten and progressed into the semi-final where they were drawn against RGS The Grange. RGS attacked well and King’s St Alban’s struggled to maintain possession and keep out of their own half. Jack P played his first games for King’s St Alban’s and what a start! He was extremely strong in the tackle and made some crucial interceptions, stopping the opponents having a chance on goal. Unfortunately we didn’t manage to make the final on this occasion but we were impressed by the way they played and the progress they continue to show!

U8/9 Football Festival at King’s Hawford

This week the U8/9 football team took part in the Football Festival at King’s Hawford, playing games against RGS The Grange, Winterfold, The Elms and the hosts. It was a fantastic afternoon of football, with the boys displaying their finest performance of the term so far and achieving some excellent results. King’s Hawford kindly lent us a couple of players to make up the team and enjoyment was had by all, with the boys displaying great determination and teamwork throughout the afternoon. Isaac continued to improve in goal and is developing his goalkeeping skills well with every game he plays. Ben showed his effective pace and accurate tackling in defence, and George and Wilf worked hard at the back too, defending well. Will made plenty of attacking runs going forward, dribbling the ball well, and Mark displayed excellent passing and finishing skills in each game. Well done boys!

U9 and U8 Netball matches v RGS Springfield
The girls had a wonderful afternoon at RGS Springfield. The U8s and the U8/U9 mixed team played their normal buzzers game of netball (4 a side), and you could definitely see the improvement in their skills. The U8s started to have a go at shooting into the net also. They played well and scored a few goals. The U9 team had their first go at Stingers netball (5 a side). This was very much a coaching game between both sides which was excellent in order to practise ready for next week’s tournament. Well done girls!
