Successful term celebrated in style

There was a great deal to be celebrated in assembly this morning: it has been a busy but successful 12 weeks of term and today Mr Butt needed not one but two tables to accommodate all of the trophies, certificates and prizes!

Subject Merits:

Year 1: Chester L, Jessica S, Harper P, Tanith H and Yaseen A.
Year 2: Eleanor N and Sophia R.
Year 4: Elizabeth N.
Year 5: Benjamin L, Harry C, Henry W, Holly J and Sofia E.

Our pupils have once again seen plenty of success outside of school. Elliott C has been awarded his yellow tag belt in karate and Ffion W achieved the Club Medal 2 from the City of Worcester Gymnastics Club.

Worcester Competitive Arts Festival:

Michelle W was awarded the Robert Vale Cup for her short story.

Chess Report – Mr Berry:

The chess club has had a busy term, with some very exciting competitions.

The prize winners were:
Year 3:               1st: Bella P,                  2nd: Freddie W,        3rd: Henry D
Year 4:              1st: Josiah K-E,             2nd: Lyra H,             3rd: Finn M-P
Year 5:               1st: Sofia E ,                  2nd: Harry C,          3rd: Isabella W
Year 6:              1st: Michelle Z,             2nd: Barnaby B        3rd: Max D

The Year 6 competition was particularly exciting, with a close finish on the final day of the tournament.  Jack M played well and was unlucky to miss out on third place by one point.

Well done to everyone who attended chess and took part in the competitions this term!

Several of the King’s Hawford players have competed in tournaments outside school recently.

  • Three children from the School entered a junior chess tournament at Alvechurch during the Christmas break. Michelle Z won the Girls Under-16 Competition, which is an especially impressive achievement.
  • King’s Hawford Girls’ Chess Team recently came third out of 23 teams in an online, girls’ only chess event called “She Plays to Win”.

We are looking forward to next term’s Inter-House Chess Competition.
Next term Year 2 children will have the opportunity to start learning and playing chess at lunchtime. Both beginners and future Grandmasters will be most welcome!

Headmaster Awards (HMAs).

Isla HM, Blythe, Edith D and Michelle Z have been awarded HMAs for the work they have done on their class text Journey to River Sea. The girls produced a book review using video and an internal monologue that was filmed on an iPad. The girls showed great use of technology in delivering some really insightful comments. A standout interpretation of the book.

Millie B and Jess K impressed last week when they both took on extra lines in the Year 3 and 4 production to cover a classmate who was poorly. Well done girls!

In Year 3, Jasper P has produced a brilliant explanation text on how to survive in the desert. Year 1 pupils have had an excellent end to the term. Alfie P and Jessica S have produced some fantastic poetry and Braxton B, William C and Indie F stood out by producing some lovely writing in your recent writing assessments.

Blythe T and Erin L were praised for their informative WW1 posters. Isla HM, Edith D, Hudson M and Freddie P have created some outstanding posters on animal classification. Harper P was commended for her use of tech.

Finally Lottie H was awarded a special HMA to celebrate her time at King’s Hawford and all she has given to the school during her time here. Lottie leaves us today for an adventure down under and we wish her the very best for the future.
