King's Hawford

5 May

Sun shines for start of cricket season.

U8 Cricket vs King’s St Alban’s

It was wonderful to see Year 3 challenging themselves with their first taste of competitive cricket at Kings Hawford on Tuesday afternoon. We welcomed our peers from KSA for four super matches on the school fields. The children all worked hard to continue to develop the accuracy and consistency of their overarm bowling techniques and they enjoyed the opportunity to try to hit valuable runs and boundaries when batting. All four Hawford teams played excellently, and we were especially impressed with the performances of Charles H, Johannes K, Annie W and Jasper P. The children are all looking forward to next Tuesday’s fixtures with Abberley and The Elms.

U8 Cricket vs King’s St Alban’s

A beautiful, sunny afternoon saw King’s Hawford host King’s St Alban’s in our first U8 cricket fixture of the season. Facing a mixture of bowling,  and batsman with different strengths, the team did exceptionally well. Each pair demonstrated some great running between the wickets. Several team members hit fours, with everyone managing to hit the ball at least once throughout the game.  Daisy and Bella demonstrated some excellent bowling, with Daisy taking three wickets in succession. Henry was effective in his play at wicket keeper and found his voice as the game progressed, aiding the team in decision making. Our batting also improved and the team did well, following advice for running quick singles and backing up better.

This was a very positive start to Year 3 cricket fixtures. Well done to Bella P, who was awarded Player of the Match.

U10 Cricket vs King’s St Alban’s

On Wednesday afternoon the sun shone and it felt like the summer term had finally truly begun as  Year 5 travelled to KSA for their first cricket fixtures of the term. What ensued was a fantastic afternoon of cricket, in which the children demonstrated impressive skills both with the bat and the ball. It was great to see the children in all four matches successfully applying the hard work from their recent games sessions and really focussing on refining the line and length of their bowling. The highlights of the afternoon included an impressive innings of 30 not out from Harriet B.

U11 Cricket vs King’s St Alban’s

A glorious afternoon saw King’s Hawford host King’s St Alban’s for an afternoon of cricket. The team took to the field with great enthusiasm and kept concentration throughout, with some excellent ground fielding.  Sartaaj was effective in his play at wicket keeper and found his voice as the game developed, aiding the team in quick decisions and game play. As the game progressed, there was improvement in our bowling, with fewer wides and no balls. Our batting also improved and the team did well following advice for running quick singles and backing up better. Some lovely fours were hit by Issie, who, although she was nursing an injury, committed 100% to the match.

We have been working on our fielding and there was a few unlucky drops of the ball, but these are all areas to work on in the coming weeks. All in all it was a great performance from the whole team and pleasing from a coaching point of view to see the team executing skills learnt in lessons. Well done to Issie F, who was awarded Player of the Match.
