Before our children broke up for half term, Years 3 – 6 took part in a Swimming Gala unlike any other we’ve hosted before. While we couldn’t compete with other schools in person, we could over Zoom, which is exactly what we did!
Six schools across the region took part in different age groups in this new style of competing. We were invited by Warwick Prep to join the virtual swimming gala, which saw all the children competing in their own school’s swimming pool being timed over 25m, while the competition was being streamed and recorded via conference call technology in order to calculate the results.
Children in Years 3 – 5 took part in the competition during their usual PE lessons, whereas Year 6 competed after school. We were very impressed with our children’s tenacity and team work.
We have received the results of the Swimming Gala this week and we’re delighted to get two first places and an astonishing ten second places. James A and George H should both be congratulated on gaining first place in the 25m Butterfly. It was a very strong field of competition and we’d like to say a big congratulations to Balsall Common Primary School for winning many of the races, as well as all the other children who took part in the gala.
All children at King’s St Alban’s are given the opportunity to take part in inter-school fixtures. We will also be entering the Worcestershire Schools Virtual Games in December, so we still have more competition to look forward to with the current Government restrictions.
