Tenacious Year 1 enjoy offsite adventure

A dull and wet Derbyshire day didn’t dampen the spirits of the Year 1s, who travelled to Conkers for a school visit. It was a very excitable group of children who boarded the minibus on Thursday morning. Armed with coats and packed lunches, the children set forth from King’s Hawford ready for a day of adventure.

On arrival, the children were immersed into a 4D cinema experience which included water sprays, blasts of cool air and even something tickling their legs! They then took the short journey on the Conker Choo Train to the Waterside Centre. Here they went on a ranger-led Bear Hunt. Imagination was flowing as the children pretended to squelch through the mud, splashed their way through the river and trailed back through the swishy-swashy grass, all whilst taking care of a lost Baby Bear! At the end of the hunt, the Years 1s managed to reunite Baby Bear with Mummy Bear.

A well-earned break on the amazing play equipment followed, with Mrs Rand, Miss Lake and Mr George all having a go on the zip wire too! There were squeals of delight from the children as they watched their teachers brave the zip wire. After lunch, the children headed back to the Discovery Centre on the train. After this, the children embraced the famous Barefoot Walk; a few shrieks and screams later, everyone had completed the walk to the best of their ability! As the visit came to a close, the children had a few minutes on the activity trail and managed to find the castle in the middle of the maze. The teachers were extremely proud of how the Year 1 cohort behaved and everyone is already looking forward to their next offsite adventure next half-term!
