King's Hawford

18 March

Thank ABBA for the Music

On Wednesday 17th March, King’s Hawford came together to enjoy a very special ABBA Day. The day involved all year groups, and was packed full of fun activities and lessons to inspire the children and of course, have some much needed fun.

The day started with an ABBA themed virtual assembly, where we learnt about the history of ABBA and asked if they were the greatest thing to ever happen to Sweden?  To answer the question we looked at the other things that Sweden is famous for, including the invention of the iconic glass coca-cola bottle and seat belts.

The theme continued throughout the day with the Ikea Design Challenge. The children were given a kit containing lollipop sticks and blu-tack and challenged to create their very own piece of furniture.

Lunch was of course a spectacular Swedish meal thanks to our talented catering team. The main dish was a feast of meatballs and for dessert we tried Kladdkaka, a wonderfully sticky Swedish chocolate cake.

Outdoor activities also had a Swedish theme. Children from all year groups enjoyed an outdoor treasure hunt within their bubbles, and the Year 5 and 6 children participated in a range of Swedish sports, including Kubb, Floorball, and Bandy. The school day concluded with us coming together to enjoy a virtual boogie with Mrs O’Brien to Chiquitita.

A Virtual ABBA Concert

The celebrations continued well into the evening, with an exciting ABBA evening that parents, grandparents and King’s Hawford families enjoyed virtually from the comfort of their own home. With close to 200 families tuning in, the children watched with delight as their teachers took to the stage to perform some of their favourite ABBA tracks. We also enjoyed a very special performance of Super Trouper from the Wind Band, and we even had a special message from Bjorn Again.

There was most definitely something in the air that night! A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our virtual event, we hope you had as much fun as we did. And of course, thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make the day so much fun.
