The King’s Voice Returns!

During the school closure, the student-presented radio station ‘The King’s Voice’ aims to continue broadcasting podcasts remotely.

Regular week-day shows The Riff Busters, 21st Century Boys, and School News have all produced podcasts from home which have been uploaded to the station’s online podcast streaming account – Mixcloud.

The most recent podcast, recorded by School News presenter Edmund Roberts in Upper Four, describes how the community is coming together to help combat COVID-19, highlighting the excellent work of local companies and King’s employees Mr. Wilson and Mrs. Williams.

Physics teacher Mr. Pearson, who set up the radio station this academic year, said “I’m is very impressed with student engagement towards The King’s Voice and the students’ ability to record and edit podcasts from home. He would also like to thank teachers and parents for their positive feedback towards the radio station since its launch in January. It’s great that the pupils can continue to pursue their radio station passions and that pupils can also continue to listen to the podcasts which have been produced. I set up the station as I have previous radio DJ experience myself, and wanted to allow students to experience the joy of speaking about the things that interest them and community and to play the music they want to play. I believe it impacts students’ social skills, values, teamwork, and responsibility too.”

Mr Pearson launched the radio station in January after running a series of internal competitions to support with the station development. This included the internal marketing campaign for it in the Autumn term, launching the Twitter page, “Name The Station” competition, “Design The Logo” competition. The King’s Voice was officially launched in January with OV Louise Gwilliam (BBC Radio 5 Live sports presenter) coming in to be interviewed.

You can listen to all of the podcasts over at The King’s Voice Mix Cloud. Also, you can keep up with the latest news and podcast releases over on Twitter @Kings_Voice.
