It has been lovely to welcome the children back this week for the summer term and the warm sunny weather has certainly put a smile on everyone’s faces.
In their music lessons, the children have been enthusiastic about moving onto new topics. Year 4 have produced some super performance work based on the traditional Chinese song ‘Hung Chai Mei Mei’ and Year 5 have shown excellent factual recall in their early work on Tudor music. Year 6 have been transported around the world to Indonesia for their work on Gamelan and have demonstrated great determination in tackling the complex and unusual vocabulary specific to this style of music. Year 3 have been particularly fortunate in that the lovely weather has enabled them to enjoy their work on ’Singing Games’ outside in glorious sunshine.
In Pre-Prep, the children have started learning the music for our Summer Show, which will take place on 21st June. This year’s theme is ‘The Weather’ and the children are already raising the roof with their enthusiastic singing!
In addition to class music lessons, many of the children have also enjoyed a return to ensemble playing this week. Our year group ensembles in Years 3-6 are working hard to prepare for the Junior Summer Show in the last week of term and have already made excellent progress in learning the repertoire for this event.
Our instrumental teachers are now back in force too, with a full programme of individual instrumental lessons taking place each week. I have been thrilled to learn of a number of successes among our KSA pupils in their ABRSM virtual exams over the last few weeks. Many of our children are also preparing to take either virtual or live exams this term and we wish them well as they work hard towards their goals. We are looking forward to enjoying the fruits of their labours at our informal concerts this term.
We are really enjoying making music together again and it looks like we will end this challenging year in style!
