U11 ISFA Football at Clifton College
Last Friday a team of ten Year 6 boys travelled to Clifton College in Bristol to compete in the annual U11 ISFA South West regional qualifier. With 15 schools participating, it was sure to be a challenging day of football. The Hawford boys were drawn in a group alongside Hereford Cathedral School, Truro School and Llandaff Cathedral School. The boys started brightly in their first match against Hereford and enjoyed much of the early possession. Unfortunately, an injury to one of the Hereford boys just before half time, somewhat affected the flow of the game. Hereford made a strong start to the second half and managed to get a crucial goal that proved to be the difference between the two sides despite continued Hawford pressure on the Hereford goal.
Next up was a challenging fixture against a strong Truro side. Truro were energetic in attack and took advantage of a couple of lacks of concentration in the Hawford back line to take a 2-0 lead. The Hawford boys rallied in the second half and, despite Jude seeing a superb effort canon back off the crossbar, were unable to find the back of the Truro net.
The final group game followed a similar pattern with Llandaff managing to score the only goal of yet another tight match. The Hawford boys endured a frustrating afternoon in which they struggled to apply their passing football in the way that we have become accustomed so far this term. They can take pride in their superb levels of resilience and sportsmanship in what was a challenging day.
U10 Football vs Hallfield School
On Monday afternoon the Year 5 boys made the trip over to Hallfield School for two football fixtures. Once again Mr Brown’s team demonstrated the superb progress that they have made throughout the term by producing an excellent performance and securing an impressive result in what was a closely fraught contest. We were especially impressed with the tacking and determination of Alex B and the tidy finishing of Jasper P. Mr Hodgkins’s team faced a very strong Hallfield outfit and played with incredible levels of resilience and hard work throughout. They adopted a never-say-die attitude that was encapsulated by the tireless running of Harry J, whilst leading the line, and William G and Charles H in the heart of the midfield.
U11 Football vs Hallfield School
On Wednesday afternoon it was the Year 6 boys’ turn to play host to Hallfield School. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and both teams worked extremely hard despite the hot conditions. It was fantastic to see how evenly matched the teams from both schools were. Mr Hodgkins’s team started brightly and created multiple chances that were well saved by the Hallfield goalkeeper. The deadlock was eventually broken towards the end of the first half via what can only be described as a screamer from Jude R that flew into the top right hand corner of the Hallfield goal. The remainder of the match continued to be extremely close and hotly contested. A special mention should go to Nayel MS who was superb in defence, captaining the side on his debut.
