King's St Alban's

Cuddly guests at our Reception transition picnic!

Yesterday was our annual Teddy Bears’ picnic for the new Reception children entering King’s St Alban’s in September 2022. The children were very excited and had all brought their teddies, ready for the transition picnic. The children arrived and there were lots of excited faces as they spotted their friends, old and new. Whilst a number of the children starting their formal educational journey with us in September and are already pupils at our Nursery, we are delighted that there are a healthy number of new joiners, and this was a lovely opportunity for everyone to meet.

The children, accompanied by their teddies, walked round to our Forest School area with Mrs Thorp and Miss Cartwright, our Reception teachers. They listened to Michael Rosen’s famous story We’re going on a bear hunt and many of the children joined in enthusiastically with the book. Next, it was time for our bear hunt. The children enjoyed exploring our “long wavy grass” and the “thick oozy mud” before discovering our bear in a cave! Luckily this bear was friendly and just wanted to find someone to play with, as he too makes the transition to ‘Big School’. It was lovely to watch the children getting to know each other.

We all then headed back round to The Quad for a picnic. Everyone enjoyed the sandwiches and other savoury snacks but the highlight was chocolate cake! It was a wonderful afternoon and we are really looking forward to getting to know the children and their families better as we continue our transition programme.
